Fracture of humerus with or without displacement

First aid for a fracture of the humerus

First aid for trauma is as follows:

  • To begin with, you need to calm down and offer him an anesthetic means. As an analgesic can act: analgin, nimesulide, ketorol. If a person has a panic, then you can give him a tincture of valerian, enough will be 20 drops, or one tablet of tazepam or triokazin. As a cardiovascular agent, you can use valokordin or kordiamin.

  • Then you need to limit the movement of the hand as much as possible. Immobilization is carried out for this purpose. As a tool, you can use small plates. One of them should be tightly bandaged to the shoulder, and the other to the forearm. If there is not even a plank, it is advisable to put your hand on the bandage bandage. It flows over the undamaged shoulder. In this case, the fold of the arm should be made at a right angle in the elbow. That there was no displacement, it is best to tie the bandage as tightly as possible to the body.

  • Treatment of a fracture of the humerus

To treat shoulder fracture, three methods are used: operative, conservative, and also the method of skeletal traction. If the fracture is not complicated by the displacement or it can be corrected by performing a one-stage reposition, then it is enough to apply gypsum or other fixing agent.

If we consider therapy at the site of the fracture, we can distinguish the following features:

    • Treatment of a large tubercle occurs by imposing gypsum, sometimes it can be supplemented with a diverting bus. This is necessary in order to prevent the development of stiffness in the joint and to ensure the correct fusion of the supraspinous muscle. If the fragment of the tubercle has moved, it must be fixed in the correct position with knitting needles or a screw. After about 1.5 months, the design will be removed.

    • If the surgical neck was injured, but there was no displacement, then it is possible to dispense with the application of gypsum for a month. When the correction was required, and it was successful, the plaster would have to be carried for two weeks more. If bone fragments can not be fixed, then surgical intervention is necessary. Fixation inside the bone is carried out with the help of plates. If the fracture occurred on the punctured type, then it is advisable to use either a deflection cushion or a special scarf. Term of treatment can be extended up to 3 months.

    • When the fracture is localized on the body of the shoulder and the displacement is observed, the most common method of its treatment was skeletal traction. In an immobilized position a person will have to spend up to a month. After another period of time, a plaster cast will be applied. Recently, the method of skeletal traction has gone to the background, it is replaced by osteosynthesis, which does not bind a person for such a long period of time to bed.

    • Excessive fractures are almost always accompanied by a displacement of fragments. Their comparison is carried out under anesthesia, and then it is advisable to apply gypsum for up to two months.

If the fracture has damaged the vessels or nerves, then a special operation is needed, which consists in the imposition of seams on them. This increases the duration of treatment and it is not always possible to fully restore the functionality of the limb. As for medicines, it is advisable to use calcium preparations, as well as analgesics and antibiotics.
